Many Outcome-Based Education (OBE) programs emphasize not just academic performance but specific values as “outcomes” to be demonstrated before graduating to the next schooling level. Tolerance for diversity is one of the key “values outcomes” advanced in OBE programs. But when we look at what tolerance means in the postmodern world—a refusal to critique anything as either false or wrong—we recoil in horror. Our children aren’t learning a valid social value under the code-word “tolerance.” They are instead learning that no value is normative, and no truth is objective.
