The relation between faith and reason is one of the most basic problems for any thinking believer:
- Should we accept God’s Word, the Bible, by faith, or are there reasons for believing it?
- Does reason precede faith, or does faith precede reason?
- Should we believe without reasons? Are there reasons for believing?
- Should we seek reasons for our faith, or does this diminish the merits of faith?
— Norman Geisler, from Thomas Aquinas, An Evangelical Appraisal, p. 57
